Introduction

This is a little blog to document our progress on our new home, which needs a lot of work!
I don't expect to update it very often but I will try.

After fully renovating our last house and being extremely sad to sell it we are bracing ourselves for another project. This house is much bigger, but we don't think it needs gutting in the same way as the last one (I may live to eat these words later) so it will hopefully be mostly doable while we live here.

Our initial jobs list is this:
  • Rewire (originally a "would be nice" but now essential after finding out that the house is still on two separate circuits from when it used to be two houses and has some pretty dodgy electrics. First impression from the electrician - "rewiring this place is going to be a nightmare.... which also means it'll be costly." Great, cheers.
  • Sort out the heating. Again this is on two separate systems because it used to be two houses. One boiler is new, the other went bang the very first time we tried to switch it on. My suspicion is that it will cost a fortune to run two systems so we'd like to somehow organise it into one rather than replace the second one. In the cheapest and least disruptive possible way.
  • NEW KITCHEN!! The old one is a health hazard. The floor is green. It took us more than 24 hours to pluck up the courage to even make a cup of tea in it so we'd like to be rid of it as soon as possible.
  • Fix the roof. No idea yet how much or how bad, but we DO now know that the suspiciously new bit of plastering on the landing ceiling is there because a big stone fell through it, which had been supporting the a roof valley. Riiiiiight.
